Concerned about a child or young person

If you are concerned about the child or young person in your care, there are a number of things you can do:

  • Talk to your child and try to find out what’s upsetting them. Is it school, work, friends? We have lots of information on the child and young person section of this website on the issues which may be affecting them.
  • Talk to the school or college.
  • Talk to your GP or health visitor.
  • If you have an emergency, take the child or young person to the nearest A & E department of the hospital.
  • If you have concerns about specific issues, read our A – Z of conditions to learn more about them and where to get help.
  • Visit Family Links which offers advice and courses to parents http://www.surreyfamilylinks.org.uk/.
  • Visit YoungMinds, which is a national mental health charity which provides information for parents about mental health issues. It also has a dedicated parents helpline which you can call to talk through any of your worries. Tel: 0808 802 5544. http://www.youngminds.org.uk/parents

No-one likes to be labelled, but sometimes we have to use names of conditions to describe different behaviour. It also helps us to help you and find the best solutions for you.
