Young people give CAMHS clinic a makeover
November 2009
The waiting room at Oxted CAMHS clinic has been given a new lease of life, thanks to 18 young people from
NYAS.
The young people, who are all part of the CAMHS Youth Advisors (CYA) group, gave the waiting room a complete makeover to make it more comfortable and inviting for those using it.
They decided to use some of their Youth Opportunity Funds to pay for the face lift. The group held two art / planning workshops in the lead up to the day, where they involved children and young people aged between 8 and 20 – having sent out invites through clinics and other contacts. All of the furniture was chosen by the group, who visited Toys ‘R’ us, Hobbycraft, B & Q and Ikea for supplies.
In addition, eight young people painted a large canvas around the theme of families for the Family Therapy room. It was a successful project for all involved, giving them some valuable learning experiences, including how to build flat pack furniture!
